Gabe: 1, Gravity: zero

This was a huge day for Gabe. For months, all he has wanted to do is stand up. If you helped him onto his feet, he would fight to stay upright for as long as you would hold him there. His teachers in day care all commented on how strong he was, particularly his upper body control (which comes from me flinging him around, much to Jules' dismay).

So today I am sitting in the 'Hexagon of Doom' with him, and he leans forward and tries to climb up my shirt to a standing position. I put my hands out to give him something to grab onto, and I'll be damned if he doesn't reach right out, grab my hands, and pull himself straight up to a standing position.

Later, I got outside his pen, sat him near the edge and placed my hands out for him to grab, but with the wall in between. He reached for me, but when he hit the wall he stopped trying. I got up and left the room for a second, and when I returned, there Gabe was, pulling himself up along the wall.

My Dad mentioned that I walked real early, and the pediatrician said not to be surprised if Gabe skips crawling altogether and goes straight to walking. Sheesh...might have to hurry up and babyproof the house...

Six month photo shoot

Well, Gabe's six month 'birthday' came and went on Aug. 24th. So, we went and got his pictures taken again. We are planning to do a professional photo shoot every three months until he is about two years old. At that point, we will slow down to every six months until he starts school and then do one professional shoot a year. It sounds like a lot, but we just figure he changes so much in such a short time that we don't want to miss a thing.

Pearly Whites

If you look real close, you can see his first tooth is in and the second one is barely peeking through the gums. They're on the bottom and right in front. He's been doing pretty well with teething and chews on everything he can get his hands on, including his and other people's fingers, and those little teeth are sharp! He looks so cute with his tiny teeth poking out and he smiles so big. He'll be 7 months old on Saturday 9/24 and already has 2 teeth! WOW!

First tooth: (visible) 8/28
(completely in) 9/11
Second tooth: (visible) 9/18
(completely in) ???

Look at that little "chopper" in there...can you see it?

Update on Latest Scare

The Pediatrician called us today and says we can stop the antibiotics and he's all clear. It was NOT a Urinary Tract Infection after all and we are all SO glad. When the tests came back, they were negative for UTI and it appreared to be viral. Still icky, but good news. Now we know for future illnesses with similar symptoms and such wonderful Birthday news for Mommy!!

Feelin' Better

Cheezin' it up in the ER

Latest Scare

We've been quite busy & I think we are in the clear for now, but in case you haven't heard ....Gabe threw up twice at bedtime Thurs night and we weren't sure why? Once after his bath, we wrapped him up and put him in his crib and he vomited, alot. Then, we cleaned him up and put him down and he did it again; we were asking ourselves what was going on? We figured maybe we had played too much before bed or maybe he over-ate. But he woke us up around 4am with a fever of 100 or so and that worried us. So we called the dr and they told us to watch him and call again if it didn't go down with Tylenol every 4 hours. So, I went on to work and Daddy kept him home from daycare.

His fever shot up to 103.3 by 8:30pm and we called the dr again. They told us to take him to the ER; so off we went.

We got there around 11pm and they checked him out real good. They drew blood from his arm and took a cath urine sample....Both were awful! They came back and said based on the cultures from both blood and urine, he had a UTI or Urinary Tract Infection. They gave him a large dose of antibiotics (a shot in his thigh muscle) and sent us home after they were sure he wasn't allergic to it. We didn't get home until about 2:30-3am.

Needless to say, I didn't go to work on Fri. We all went to bed and rested. Then he vomited again around 7am. We went to the pediatrician for a follow up visit with Gabe's Dr on Fri afternoon. She says it most likely is a UTI and she wanted to give him another shot in each thigh of more antibiotics and then he will take a Rx for 10days. She says he has to be clear of infection before she can run some more tests. We are not alarmed at this time, we are merely trying to soothe him and get his temp down gradually. We feel good that we went on to the ER to have him checked out.

Scary couple of days, and we're all worn out. Gabe had about 5 bandaids from his "battle scars" but he's been a trooper. I'll keep you posted about further updates from the Peds and tests they run, if any, once his Urinary Tract Infection is gone.

Take care & we'll do the same. Good thing for a perfectly timed 3 day weekend to recover and get him going on the antibiotics.

Whew, What a night!

New Toys

Daddy got Baby Gabe some new toys for 6 mos. + and he loves them all. Of course, Daddy says we could have saved alot of money and given him a plastic bottle with some rice or beans in it and he would have loved that just as much!

Gabe likes his plastic blocks and the bucket that they go in and he likes the musical toys that Daddy picked out. He likes a stacking ring toy that looks just like one I remember having when I was little too. The top ring is red and just about the size and shape of a doughnut and one side is shiny and silver so he clings to it alot too. He is doing really well with his play time and has a whole new perspective now that he is able to sit up on his own.

We got him the blue fishin' hat for school because they go outside and take wagon rides and he needs to be protected. Look at all that BLUE....hat, eyes, outfit, blocks....whatta boy!
