The Sweetest Boy

I am not normally prone to lots of sentimentality. In fact, I don't think there has ever been a time when I wished that one of the boys would 'stay just like he is right now'. Until now. Let me tell you a story.

The other day the boys were watching a show as dinner was being prepared. The normal show routine is that they take turns picking which show they watch. In this instance, it was Gabe's turn to choose a show, and he wanted to watch Phineas and Ferb. As I was making dinner, I heard the theme music for Gabe's show start over and Gavin started complaining. I went and told Gabe he needed to watch his show and not mess with the remote control. Five minutes later, I heard the theme music again and Gavin started fussing again.

I went and took the remote from Gabe and told him he had lost his show, since he didn't want to watch it as much as he wanted to play with the remote. He started having a tantrum, which I ignored, and I asked Gavin what show he wanted to watch.

"Dora," was his reply. I asked him what episode he wanted while Gabe continued having his fit.

"Star Catcher," Gavin said, and I started to put it on. Suddenly, Gavin grabbed my face (I was sitting on the floor) and said, "Daddy, I changed my mind." I asked him what he wanted to watch, and he said "Phineas and Ferb". I asked him why, and he said, "Because I don't want Gabe to be sad."

Right then, I wanted him to never, ever grow up. He really is the sweetest boy imaginable.
